The Pedigree of stock within Central Boers flocks' is concentrated on South African genetics including the following sources:
Thuens and Nico Botha (Kareehoek 776), Lukas Burger, Braam Maritz, Pip Nieuwoudt, Boetie Malas and includes Saxon Downs, Mericol, Angip and Farmworld studs.
The powerful frame and obvious robustness of Nico Botha's animals was particularly impressive. The amazing legacy established by the phenomenal A.W.A. Maritz buck "Koos" was noted. Nico had purchased "Koos" after the buck won Grand Champion Ram at the All Africa show in 1990. An incredible progeny of outstanding sons, grandsons, double grandsons etc followed him in that Kareehoek stud.
When live animals were imported from Australia after 1990, progeny of the proven sires "Tokkelos" (KARE PT60) and his son "Magic" (KARE BP6) were particularly targeted. Both parents of "Tokkelos" were sired by "Koos" sons. Stock subsequently imported and bred from Nico Botha proved to be intelligent, extremely robust, super foragers, highly fertile and easy care animals in New Zealand.

SAXON DOWNS FW099 "Magic Belle" was imported from South Africa as an embryo bred by Nico Botha and Sons, reared in Australia and imported to New Zealand as a kid.
Her mother was KARE 776-MG126, a daughter of "Magic (BP6), a very attractive, robust doe so typical of her sire's progeny. Other key sires in her dam pedigree included Nico Botha "Tokkelos" and Braam Maritz "Koos". Her grandmother was a daughter of "Koos" and her great grand dam was a daughter of another Maritz buck, MRT JR356. "Magic Belle"s sire (KARE BM72) featured Nico Botha "Superman" with Braam Maritz "Koos" pedigree over two MRT JR356 daughters also prominent.

A key component in the Central Boers breeding program is the production of animals that are well muscled, hardy and resistant to common parasites and diseases. The South African 'Maritz' bloodline has played a significant role in achieving this objective. The studs of Francois Maritz, A.W.A. Maritz and his son Braam were widely recognized as the great 'nursery of stud sires' in Africa. The intense line breeding to a Pacific phenotype and attention to detail developed genetically stable animals noted for their all-round excellence. They produced sires that would compliment existing good traits yet dramatically improve characteristics that needed upgrading.
Wynn was privileged to visit A.W.A./Braam's flock twice, the only New Zealander to do so. Lasting impressions were of very feminine, hardy does with amazing size and power of frame, tremendous length, coupled with top-line strength and great wedge. Excellent rear-end build and legs reflect the impressive muscle mass. A key outcome of this visit was the opportunity to import Saxon Downs 0213 "Ritz" into NZ. This A.W.A. Maritz buck became the cornerstone sire of the 'Alpha' stud.
The pedigree of Saxon Downs FV0694 included the sire Saxon Downs 238, a South African import bred by A.W.A. Maritz (Niekerkshoop, Northern Cape Province, Stud #256), and the dam Saxon Downs 211, bred by Nico Botha (Britstown, Eastern Cape Province, Stud #776). Here in NZ, Saxon Downs 0694 is one doe that fully encapsulates the essence of her Maritz pedigree. She is without doubt one of the most influential does ever to be live imported into the country.
